Your thoughtful opinions and observations are worthy of a hearing. Indeed, they are necessary. A blog is currently a great vehicle for those ideas. Let’s explore the reasons.
A blog (a portmanteau of “web” and “log”) might not seem all that important in the scheme of life. It’s just words on a website among millions of other websites. However, for the past ten years or so, weblogs have emerged from novelty, to influencer, to money-making machine. This income increase and influence among bloggers has made those beyond our industry sit up and take notice. An increasing number of people understand what a blog is and how powerful it can be.
What does this mean for you? It means your blog and your opinions will be heard, potentially, by a great number of people, far and wide. Do not allow that fact to intimidate you into silence. If you are an introvert and perfectionist (as I am) then it might be a bit frightening to contemplate making a mistake in public. It also might seem like a silly waste of time to communicate your opinions on a platform that is still shaking off the vestiges of its early development, a medium that is sometimes dismissed as frivolous. But you must get beyond that, not for yourself, but for the sake of others.
You might not believe that what you say is terribly important, but the marketplace of ideas is bare without you. Sometimes all it takes for someone to finally have that Eureka! moment is to have you say it.
We all have psychological baggage that can prevent us from realizing our full potential. It might take several people to help unpack that baggage before someone’s heavy burden is lifted from their shoulders.
Or let’s use another analogy. We all have little seeds within us, seeds for a useful and productive life. You might be the person who comes along and waters that seed of potential for someone, even though you may never see the fruit of your labor.
Or perhaps you have found someone further along in the growth process and you are there to help harvest the fruits of their labor. Sometimes it takes access to many different voices for a person to finally understand her worth and capabilities. And maybe it’s your job as a blogger to help her /him in that journey.
What is the worth of your blog? It is to be a resource, or a guide, or a friend, or a place of beauty, or a place of fun, or a place of rest. Ultimately, your blog is there to be helpful. Someone is waiting to benefit from your thoughtful ideas. Your blog is necessary.
